I started writing this novel in August of 2013. It was the first book I've ever written and perhaps the hardest one to accomplish. I remember coming up with story ideas and saying that I would write a book finally. All the fantasies, all the thoughts I had in mind were racing like comic strips and I struggled to prick them by finger. Wondering what to make of these dreams of these characters I had, which were obviously inspired by media in video games, comic books and movies of all sorts.
I went with my gut and the newfound knowledge I had in college writing . It felt like a necessity. But like a Keto Diet, there was that draining nuisance to stay focused, and determination, to know I actually did something, rather than say I'm going to do it. Or I plan to do it. (ACTION does speak LOUDER than words)
A year had passed and it was complete in July 2014.
I based the story off of what I know, visiting and revisiting places that the book had mentioned, whether it was where I lived or where I went with friends. It was the only way to stay in touch with reality and show human emotion in dialogue. (Research is Key)
Fearing the cheesiness and the cliché aspects, it is still my first project, and for that I must pay respect to it as well as myself. Take pride in my work without criticism, which I must admit, I suck at. Lolz
But I've never felt more proud to step out of my comfort zone, and instill my element(s) on paper.
This book has great meaning for me and throughout its entire process I looked to the guidance and memories I have with my late father, Samuel W. Barnes.
Living in Jersey City, there was some good times. When I revisited those streets taking in the sights as planed to instill imagery for the book, I had him in mind through this process. I dedicate this novel to him! And with much love and respect, I will carry your memory always.
